This independent, self-financed film by Texan director Eagle Pennell follows two chronically broke vagabond cowboy types. Between boozing, womanizing, and brawling, these ne'er-do-wells pin their hopes on money-making schemes and muse about life. The undeniable genius but poor distribution of this film helped to inspire Robert Redford to create the Sundance Film Festival in the late '70s. Now The Whole Shootin' Match enjoys classic status, and producer Mark Rance discusses the process of preserving and restoring the film at the Friday screening.
