Housed in the former Montgomery Ward catalog building, Motel Bar is a low-lit homage to the hotel bars of yesteryear, with swanky wraparound booths, a pool table, and upscale retro food like iceberg-wedge salad, buttermilk fried chicken, and a grilled artisanal cheese sandwich with tomato soup. But it's the classic cocktails — immaculately mixed and presented Rob Roys, Sidecars, and Tom Collinses — that keep us coming back. Tonight's affair is one of the few no-reservations, no-cover events we've found, featuring $8 champagne cocktails and tunes spun by DJ Alexander Bassett.
