New Year's Eve

Punch Brothers feat. Chris Thile

Mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile was a child prodigy who recorded his first album at age 12, won a Grammy in 2002 with his bluegrass band Nickel Creek, and dazzled critics with his revolutionary approach to his instrument. His new band, now called the Punch Brothers (after a short story by Mark Twain), debuted as the Tensions Mountain Boys in March 2007 at Carnegie Hall with an epic 40-minute, four-movement suite that Thile wrote in the aftermath of a difficult divorce. Live, Thile and company are a mesmerizing force, with bouts of frenetic strumming on songs like "Wayside/Back in Time" and delicate, whispery finger-picking on enigmatic ballad "I'm Nowhere and You're Everything."
