Chicago Cultural Center says…

Fyodor Dostoevsky's classic novel The Brothers Karamazov is a heady brew of depravity, justice, and redemption. A moving indictment of the problem of evil, the novel's lasting influence is owed, in part, to its examination of universal conundrums — the struggle between faith and doubt, the existence of a loving god, and the question of moral accountability. Tonight's lecture, led by Clare Pearson, chair of the University of Chicago's liberal-arts program, takes up the novel's response to nihilism, its exploration of the depths and heights of the human psyche, and its portrayal of a world where goodness can be affirmed amidst so much suffering.
