Chicago History Museum says…

Chicago history is flush with forward-thinking visionaries and trailblazing activists of the female persuasion, but social reformer, suffragist, and Nobel Prize-winner Jane Addams has had perhaps the longest-lasting influence on our fair city. The Hull House, co-founded by Addams in 1889, pioneered a new era in social work and continues to provide child care, counseling, job training, and housing assistance to needy citizens. Long in the making, today's event celebrates Monday's inaugural Jane Addams Day — our first statewide holiday honoring a woman — with a lecture on late-19th century reform history, a theater production of The Halsted Street Play, and a screening of Hull House documentary Dinner at Jane's (1993).
