How can a writer ensure that a film adaptation will be faithful to his original tale? He directs it himself, of course. That's exactly what horror wunderkind Clive Barker did just over 20 years ago with Hellraiser. Though it was released to mixed reviews, Hellraiser has since become a minor cult classic. And while the work borders on C-grade, the scary/campy Pinhead and his gaggle of sadomasochistic Cenobites deserve their place in the pantheon of great horror villains. As with most '80s slasher franchises, you can skip the limp sequels — the first cut is the deepest.
