Horror-fiction master Clive Barker, whose writing inspired films like Lord of Illusions (1995) and Candyman (1992), also happens to be an avid painter. Barker transfers his fantastical imagery onto canvas with terse brushstrokes and harsh pen lines, and his occasional use of soft hues allays one's fear that the paintings might bite. A typical piece, The Haunter prescribes the viewer with a generous dose of reproach, but the composition also has an alluring quality that makes it difficult to turn away. This exhibition is part of the "Clive Barker Invasion Weekend," which features a screening of Hellraiser (1987) and Barker signing his latest novel, Mister B. Gone.
