Eugene S. Robinson's unusual instructional book on fighting teaches the little guy how to stand up for himself. Robinson brings a semi-pro background to his lessons — he's a former bodybuilder and bouncer who's placed well in submission-fighting bouts. But his pugilistic tone brings his book closer to Norman Mailer's New Journalism boxing studies than the self-serving bios that often litter bookstores' pro-wrestling shelf. So even if you've never used the phrase "I am Jack's something-or-other" or you think UFC might refer to a low-wattage cable access station, Robinson's aggressive prose will still pummel you in just the right way.
