For his 1993 book on Kurt Cobain, rock journalist Michael Azerrad interviewed the grunge-rock legend for more than 25 hours. About a Son offers up a selection of those interviews, allowing Cobain to tell his own life story. His famous voice covers everything from early musical dabbling to the height of Nirvana's fame, while the camera lingers on new footage of the places he worked and lived. Taken as a whole, the tapes paint an intimate portrait of Cobain — revealing his ability to reach people through music and the dark thoughts that would lead him to suicide.
