If you've never seen a silent movie — or, at least, not on the big screen — let this be it. Buster Keaton is a master of expression, and The General is an ideal display of his mythical talent. He plays Johnny Gray, a man with a two-track mind for trains and his lady friend, Annabelle Lee. When the Civil War breaks out, he tries to enlist but is rejected — earning the scorn of Miss Lee, naturally. But when Union soldiers involve Johnny and his locomotive, the General, in a plot against the South, they manage to capture both his train and his girl. And then things get ugly.
