Music: Rock/Pop The Lee Ray Collective w/ Something Fierce, the Gnomes, and the Monocles

The Lee Ray Collective may be the most deliriously happy-sounding band in the world. Like a soundtrack to falling in (teenage) love, the band's bright, bouncy pop is of the vintage-indie variety, drawing inspiration from the toe-tapping adorableness of the Wombats, the melancholy harmonies of the Replacements, and the bedazzled riffage of the Undertones. It's almost too much sweetness to bear (almost!), but the collective — which includes members of Chicago pop champs the Returnables — uses enough razor-sharp hooks, snotty vocals, and breathless melodies to keep things kicking.
