Music: Rock/Pop Mung w/ Pillars and Tongues and A Tundra

Considering that three-fourths of Mung come equipped with Northwestern music and electrical engineering degrees, it's little wonder that the band's exhilarating, demented jams exhibit such technical complexity and classical know-how. Recalling the Birthday Party (sans Nick Cave's caterwauling) as well as DNA's freeform sonic explorations, the prog-noise beatniks mold oddball guitar riffs, tumbling arpeggios, and math-y time changes into a careening, angsty racket that's both befuddling and brilliant. Tonight, the quartet celebrates the release of their second EP, Tough Swig, a followup to last year's impressively weird Junk.
