Note: There is an opening reception on Fri Jan 25 (5-7pm).
Chicago artist Anne Wilson created three intricate artworks investigating the process of weaving textiles. Wind-Up — a five-day performance that runs before the exhibition's opening — sees Wilson magnifying the weaving process to a large scale, creating a 40-foot "warp" of yellow fabric with the help of several collaborators. Portable City is a community of miniature fabric sculptures, each demonstrating the structural possibilities of woven fabric. For Notations, Wilson displays her symbolic notation for capturing the elaborate hand movements of knitting and crocheting, with an accompanying soundtrack by Shawn Decker.
