Ready to roll, the slammin' ladies of the Windy City Rollers open their fifth season today, and their second on a regulation-size track in the west suburb of Cicero. Each derby "bout" consists of two games played by the all-girl league's four teams — the Fury, Hell's Belles, Double Crossers, and Manic Attackers. The events routinely draw enormous crowds, with a portion of the proceeds going to charity. Founded in 2004, the Rollers rekindle the ballsy athleticism of a sport founded here in Chicago in 1935, and bring a healthy dose of sassy showmanship — temper tantrums, smack-talking, and fighting are par for the (flat-track) course.
