It isn't just the title of a plot-twisting Spike Jonze film — "adaptation" also refers to the artistic practice of reappropriation, of combining tropes from disparate sources into finely tuned, cohesive artworks. Artists Guy Ben-Ner, Arturo Herrera, Catherine Sullivan, and Eve Sussman & The Rufus Corporation explore the method through several video installations that utilize bits from classic painting and literature. Ben-Ner recounts Moby Dick via his six-year-old daughter, and Sussman recasts The Rape of the Sabine Women in a modern idiom.
