Most of us remember a time when homework was our biggest responsibility and having a chat with the opposite sex was stressful enough to provoke cardiac arrest. Photographer Lauren Greenfield articulates the teenaged disposition with a look at the ever-changing cultural phenomenon of the pubescent girl in her books Girl Culture and Thin. Tonight, the AIC screens Greenfield's short documentary (and recent Sundance entry) Kids and Money, an exploration of consumerism among teens. Associate photography curator Liz Siegel provides some context in a discussion of Girls on the Verge: Portraits of Adolescence, the museum's current exhibition surveying the postmodern girly-girl, which includes a few of Greenfield's photos.
