Music: Rock/Pop Is She Weird Is She White (Pixies Tribute) w/ the Teenage FBI (Guided by Voices Tribute)

Since he was nominated for a Grammy at age five for recording a duet with his father, Bobby Bare, alt-county iconoclast Bobby Bare Jr. has been subverting, embellishing, and re-channeling his dear dad's classic Nashville sound to surprising effect. Melding Bare Sr.'s rootsy warble and honky-tonk country rhythms with fuzzed-up guitar solos, forlorn My Morning Jacket-esque melodies, and haunting, brooding lyrics, Bare Jr.'s sound is equal parts melancholic Bob Dylan, indie god Stephen Malkmus, and Southern rawkers Drive-By Truckers. Tonight, Bare and friends indulge their rock 'n roll side with a performance as Pixies tribute band Is She Weird Is She White. Meanwhile, the Teenage FBI, featuring members of Silver Jews and Clem Snide, rock Guided by Voices covers.

Note: Bobby Bare Jr. also plays Schubas on Sat Jan 5 (10pm).
