Art Kateřina Šedá

Kateřina Šedá's familial project It Doesn't Matter (Je to Jedno) began as a simple exercise to help integrate her grandmother Jana back into family life after the death of her husband. The project, however, turned into a major conceptual series, diagramming the intersection of individual psychology and social exchange. Šedá asked her grandmother to create detailed drawings of tools she sold from her hardware store of 30 years in communist Czechoslovakia. By the end of the two-year project, there were over 650 drawings and photos documenting items, prices, quantities, and other shop memories. Šedá's work tackles complex social issues by initiating responses to questions and documenting the process as a contextual work of art.
