Chicago Cultural Center says…

Can a chair be more than just a place to sit and rest your feet? In a modern-art exhibit, the answer is invariably yes. The mechanically, visually, and functionally manipulated pieces in Deceptive Design betray your eyes and open them up to new interpretations of traditional furnishings, challenging accepted notions of how furniture can be used or what it can look like. The magic of the tricky pieces isn't a mystery for long — each is displayed with sketches and an explanation of the design's illusory aspects. A "Wolf in Sheep's Lighting," for instance, is both a light and a pun, with a sheep-formed lamp casting the shadow of a wolf.
