Brooklyn dream-pop outfit Asobi Seksu (colloquial Japanese for "playful sex") make a brand of shoegaze that's more reminiscent of the Verve than My Bloody Valentine. Their smooth tunes combine an adoration for heavy reverb and '60s girl groups with a bunch of effects pedals and Yuki Chikudate's ethereal vocals. The duo finished their new record, the follow-up to their well-received sophomore outing Citrus, and they're keeping their new material close to the vest. Last week, they leaked the single "Me & Mary," a track that hints at few surprises and continues the band's love affair with its particularly poppy strain of shoegaze.
