What's the relationship between art and politics? How can art contribute to social change? These questions aren't new, but they never fail to inspire and provoke. Recognizing the political intensity of the present moment, the MCA has teamed up with the University of Chicago's Open Practice Committee and Department of Visual Arts to produce a rigorous conference lineup of theorists, philosophers, educators, and artists. Influential political philosopher Jacques Rancière presents a keynote address that examines the ways in which visual stimuli affect democracy. Other speakers include artists Doug Ashford, Gregg Bordowitz, Carolina Caycedo, and critic Brian Holmes.
