The points of intersection between the "hip" and "nerdy" circles on the cultural Venn diagram used to be a null set. But Rivers Cuomo got a toe in there, and before you could say "David Sedaris," half of the coolest kids in town were massive geeks. Take John Hodgman, best known as the uptight PC in Apple's "Get a Mac" advertising campaign.
