In her concession speech this summer, Hillary Clinton remarked, "Although we weren't able to shatter that highest, hardest glass ceiling this time. . . it's got about 18 million cracks in it." Sarah Palin later echoed Clinton's sentiments, proclaiming, "[now] we can shatter that glass ceiling once and for all." Despite both candidates' optimism, blatantly sexist treatments in the media — "Caribou Barbie," "She-Devil," and the like — reflect a troubling, less-than-progressive state of affairs for women in politics. Today's nonpartisan panel welcomes League of Women Voters' Esta Kallen, former US senator Carol Moseley Braun, and others to discuss whether the glass ceiling has really been shattered — or if it's as intact as ever.
