Fans of Japanese shock cinema are familiar with the genre's violent depravity, having exported extreme works such as Battle Royale, Suicide Circle, and roughly half of Takeshi Miike's filmography. This jaw-dropping pedigree precedes Tokyo Gore Police, featuring direction by The Machine Girl's special-effects wizard, Yoshihiro Nishimura; a star turn by Eihi Shiina (Audition); and a script by Kengo Kaji (Uzumaki). The plot focuses on an officer in a privatized paramilitary force who is asked to enforce martial law through sadistic violence. The trailer alone makes Peter Jackson's Dead Alive look like Care Bears: Journey to Joke-a-Lot .
