Swiping the name of Warhol’s most notorious Factory Girl, Edie Sedgwick is actually the nom de bass of Justin Moyer, known best for his work with El Guapo/Supersystem. He brushes off the brainy electro-experimentalism of his old band, opting instead for the smiley-snide tone (if not always the sound) of electroclash with a healthy dose of glam rock preen tossed in. Like his last couple of full-lengths, the new Things Are Getting Sinister and Sinisterer obsesses over fame and idol worship, namechecking the likes of Anthony Perkins and Mary-Kate. But the concept always works best live, when his trashy drag costumes offer a sly critique not only of his celebutante namesake, but the whole debauched, narcissistic legacy she helped to spawn.
