Photographer Michael Wolf transitioned from keen observations of Hong Kong in his Architecture of Density series to a residency spent documenting the historic and experimental architecture of Chicago in The Transparent City. While working in his studio, Wolf zoomed in on one of his building photographs to check for blemishes, and found a man in the window giving him the finger. He then scoured his entire Chicago collection for voyeuristic, heavily pixelated close-ups of residents and workers in downtown high-rises, only to find mostly mundane moments. Pairing these with flattened images of the city's structural strong points, Wolf's work blurs the lines between private and public spheres.
