As if anyone needed further proof that our economy is in tatters, last month the NYC-based National Debt Clock ran out of digits as our country's debt surpassed $10 trillion for the first time. Nonpartisan documentary I.O.U.S.A. details how the world's richest nation ran so deep into the red. The film, which has been fairly compared to Al Gore's exceptional An Inconvenient Truth, sketches decades of fiscal irresponsibility, from Reagonomics and the Bush tax cuts to the Iraq war and the burgeoning Social Security crisis. The film serves as both a harrowing look at our nation's economic situation, and an effective and timely call-to-arms for sacrifice, tough decisions, and courageous leadership.
