Some of us work out our issues in group therapy, benefiting from the wisdom of our peers. Those who can afford one-on-one couch time attack their problems in intense 50-minute sessions. Then there's Billy Corgan, whose soul-searching generally occurs onstage (t-shirt purchase optional). Heart as ever on his sleeve, Chicago's prince of mope returns to the limelight with a week of shows commemorating his chart-topping band's twentieth anniversary. According to the tour's logo, the Pumpkins are "celebrating twenty years of sadness." It's not clear that such misery is cause for celebration, but as long as they play the hits, who cares?
Note:
The Smashing Pumpkins announced a fifth (and final) Chicago date. The band performs Sunday 12.7 (7:30pm) at the Aragon. Tickets go on sale Wednesday 11.26 (10am).
