If you like your holiday entertainment gentle, heartwarming, and family-friendly, this is the show for you. Based on Sally Benson's short stories first published in the New Yorker, Meet Me in St. Louis started as a 1944 MGM film starring Judy Garland and later was nominated for a Tony award for Best Musical. It tenderly depicts the domestic hijinks and romantic adventures of the Smith family of St. Louis, a sweetly all-American crew eagerly anticipating the 1904 World's Fair. The cast is appealing and the costumes splendid, while the score ranges from inoffensive pablum to familiar standards ("The Trolley Song," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas").
