How do we construct present-day personal and historical narratives that affect generations to come? How does a sense of community impact our notions of identity? Jules Rosskam's film functions as a springboard for these questions, focusing on emerging trans-masculine (female-to-male) communities. Working on the front lines of transgender identity politics, against a trans narrative interrogates the dominant constructions of trans-masculinity that color — and perhaps hinder — self-expressions of difference and belonging.
