Long before a certain snarky film about a certain snarky pregnant teenager propelled Kimya Dawson to household-name status, the former Moldy Peaches songstress was cranking out witty, lo-fi anti-folk packed with lurid smartypants lyrics to make They Might Be Giants and Dead Milkmen envious. Along the way, her gravelly voice and earnestly imperfect guitar melodies have attracted collaborators and fans such as the Mountain Goats and Ben Kweller.
