National Novel Writing Month
Monday Nov 24, 2008 (6–10pm)
Open Books

NaNoWriMo — that's National Novel Writing Month for the uninitiated — is a 10-year-old grassroots, do-it-now initiative that began with 21 ambitious wannabe novelists in San Francisco, and grew to over 100,000 participants (15,000 of whom finished first drafts of their masterpieces) in 2007. This weekly write-in, hosted by literacy-focused community center Open Books at its River North headquarters, offers free wi-fi, cozy couches, an all-important supply of coffee, and the chance to rub laptops with fellow fiction-writing marathoners working toward the "difficult but doable" goal of 50,000 words in 30 days.
