Note:
The tour meets in Gallery 100.
The AIC may be best-known for its comprehensive collection of impressionist and postimpressionist paintings, but they haven't been on view since May, when the works traveled to Texas for a stint at the Kimbell Art Museum. Not to worry: crowd-pleasing masterpieces from Monet, Degas, and Van Gogh will be home in time for Christmas, hung in newly renovated galleries that open on December 19. In the meantime, grab a magnifying glass and explore some of the AIC's 60,000 prints with senior lecturer Annie Morse, who explains the difference between an etching and an engraving and addresses the advent of lithography in the industrial age. Specific works discussed include Pieter Bruegel the Elder's St. George's Day; Rembrandt's St. Jerome Reading, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's Confetti.
