It takes more than a tutorial in Adobe Illustrator to make someone an artist. Extraordinary computer design and illustration rely on the basics learned by creating similar pieces on canvas or paper. Paint for Print showcases work by today's leading illustrators, who eschew digital media to work in watercolor, acrylic, oil, and gouache. The artists remake well-known icons like Wonder Woman and the giant from "Jack and the Beanstalk" into evocative, hand-crafted images. The work of Columbia College students — coached by exhibiting artist Penelope Dullaghan and produced on a two-day deadline — appears in an accompanying show.
