Korean-born, New York-based artist Ik-Joong Kang "collects dreams of children" in his small-format, large-impact installations, comprised of three-inch squares arranged in mosaic-like patterns. A recent work, Amazed World, displayed 34,000 tiny drawings by children from 134 countries in the lobby of the United Nations building, and a project from 1999 created a kilometer-long installation along the Korean DMZ with artwork from South Korean children. Today's live demonstration by the artist is a precursor to his new exhibition at Andrew Bae Gallery, opening Friday, in which the artist arranges new paintings — as well as childrens' works from Amazed World — into the iconic shape of the moon jar, evoking a reunified Korea.
