Helsinki-born, Spain-based Riiko Sakkinen's work appeals to hungry global palates, offering a witty update of the pop-art aesthetic. Stealing source materials such as Russian prostitute ads and Japanese candy posters, Sakkinen creates slideshows and playful drawings from these disparate images. Peter Cardone's emotionally resonant photograph captures his wife standing in front of a house with white siding, her blank, red-rimmed, pale-blue eyes gazing at the viewer, while Melanie Schiff's nipple peeks through a tattered Sonic Youth t-shirt in See-Through (2004). Step inside Mike Andrews and Sami Sänpäkkilä's one-room installation, which feels like a Xerox machine on Ambien. Reaching across vast expanses of the planet, From the Arctic to the Prairie dislocates notions of geographically dependent identity.
