A cardboard city has sprung up inside the Viaduct Theater in Roscoe Village, but it isn't the set for a play. It's an exhibition featuring over 40 local artists, each enlisted to create a single block — complete with glowing streetlights and the sound of rumbling trains. The mini metropolis is a patchwork of different styles, ranging from the occasional Tim Burton vibe (or a hint of Dr. Seuss) to the meticulous air of an architectural model. A number of artists embrace cheerfully voyeuristic views, as in Jay Ryan's colorful row houses, which are peppered with hand-drawn windows that reveal his familiar characters going about their lives.
