Since its inception in 2006 by two New York dance enthusiasts, Dance Dance Party Party has developed into a fully-fledged, ladies-only cult phenom with chapters in more than a dozen cities. Each edition shares the same basic format: a dance studio, dimmed lights, a 90-minute iPod set, and break-dancing, school-busing, moon-walking, worming, and rug-cutting galore. Any sort of fancy footwork and booty-shaking is encouraged in this welcoming, supportive, no-'tude environment. Indeed, the only three rules — no boys, no booze, no judgment — ring like an affirmative, motto for the 'girls-rule' masses. The Chicago chapter hosts two shimmy sessions per week for the dance-craved; attendees can even sign up to guest DJ.
