Perhaps the most peculiar bit of culture clash since Elvis met Nixon, the 1977 "Little Drummer Boy" duet between David Bowie and Bing Crosby was a first-rate head-scratcher: glam-rock alien lands on Planet Starch. Inspired by that classic space oddity, the New Millennium Theater Group has added yet another gonzo layer with its Solstice Spectacular. The production imagines a fictional Bowie Christmas special, replete with appearances by Mick Jagger, Iggy Pop, Nipsey Russell, Charo, the ghost of Freddie Mercury — and, of course, Mr. White Christmas himself. It's an appropriately screwball pastiche that (just like its inspiration) is made even more bizarre by the fact that it somehow actually works.
