While Amy Winehouse has traded her "queen of new soul" title for "princess hot mess," Sharon Jones — who was and remains the original singer for Winehouse's backing band, British soul/funk revivalists the Dap-Kings — don't take no mess. Although at times you'd swear you were hearing Etta James or Odetta, Jones invests her songs with enough passion and grit to make them her own — even while she and the band are smoking through a Marva Whitney cover.
