Film: Documentary Iron Ladies of Liberia

Daniel Junge's Iron Ladies paints an intimate portrait of Africa's first freely elected head of state, Liberia's Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. The film tracks Sirleaf through her first year as president, as she attempts to stabilize her debt-ridden country, which is recovering from a devastating civil war that ended in 2003. By exploring how Sirleaf and other powerful women are working to achieve democracy and peace, the film asks a timely question for Americans: to what extent does gender matter in politics?
