Winslow Homer began his career as a humble illustrator for Harper's, but he retired as the self-taught American master of watercolor painting, with landscapes depicting glistening seascapes of waves, windblown ships, and pristine beaches. The Color of Light showcases over 130 rarely seen Homer works, culled from the Art Institute of Chicago's treasure trove of a basement, as well as private collections and institutions abroad, in an exhibition that's solely for the eyes of Chicagoans.
