Susan Goss, proprietor of West Town Tavern, has been collecting all of West Town's old, discarded ashtrays, which were rendered obsolete after Chicago recently enacted a smoking ban. Local artists then turned the smoldering receptacles into novel objets d'art — the perfect gift for your favorite shafted smoker — for an exhibition called Ashtrays to Art. An auction of the works benefits Erie Neighborhood House, a local community-service agency that gives aid to Latino children.
