More often than not, biographies of the Brontës tend to fortify the pair's reputation as sickly sisters of misery. Choreographer Margi Cole, however, became intrigued by the male pen names the authors used to gain entry to the publishing world. Cole's Written on the Body explores her curiosity about the allure and danger of alternate identities, with dances executed in her trademark grounded, subtly unpredictable style. Cole is a powerful and mysterious presence herself, dancing a solo by Bay Area mainstay Ellie Klopp, while a premiere by Colleen Halloran fleshes out the evening.
