Hoot Night is a beloved Chicago tradition in which local musicians build a night of casual covers around a central theme. On past evenings, performers have played around with "The Cure vs Diana Ross" and "Chicago vs Dublin." Tonight's theme, however, is "Streisand vs Violence" — so prepare yourself for all the Babs ballads, caught up in a down-and-dirty, Tom Waits and Nick Cave-style demimonde drama. Chicago Hoots have been sadly infrequent since impresario Thomas Dunning moved to Dublin a few years ago, but he's back tonight for a rare appearance, and he's bringing his friends with him. Just leave your guitar at home — this event (sadly) isn't open-mic.
