From death metal to disco, Sweden has no shortage of musical talent. Following the latest batch of the Knife DVDs and José González singles comes the Hives' The Black and White Album, another barrage of garage-rock and surf-punk tunes building upon the band's radio-friendly 2002 hit, "Hate to Say I Told You So." The record reveals a few new tricks, including doo-wop riffs, snappy new hairdos, and a smidge more cowbell. The Donnas open, having recently outgrown their three-chord punk routine in favor of a metal makeover.
