Still in its inaugural season, but already garnering heaps of critical acclaim, Chicago's Baroque Band is intent on becoming the nation's premier period-instrument orchestra. Directed by British-born violinist Garry Clark, the ensemble describes itself as "a group of musicians who share a passion for performing music of decomposed composers on instruments that have never been near an electricity socket or an amplifier." The Baroque Band stages electrifying performances of little-heard 17th- and 18th-century compositions, including works from Austrian composer Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber, as well as crowd-pleasers like Bach's harpsichord concertos.
