In this installment of an ongoing monthly discussion series, experts delve into Chicago's history of public housing to examine the hotly debated issue of gentrification, i.e., what happens when the middle class moves into a predominantly low-income area and gives it an upscale makeover. Some say that this process rehabilitates struggling neighborhoods (the good), while most argue that gentrification just jacks up prices, forcing out poorer residents (the bad) as well as making it hard for hipsters to keep tabs on which neighborhood is cool this week (the ugly). All sides of this controversial topic will be covered tonight.
