Susan Marshall choreographs like Beckett wrote: thoughtfully, choosing a small vocabulary of elements to represent a multitude of ideas, and using subtle differences in their repetition to stand in for major themes. Fortunately, though, she's not saddled with the playwright's narrow, dour temperament. Cloudless — which earned Marshall a Bessie Award — covers the emotional landscape of a lifetime, with its 18 brief dances seemingly chosen from millions of memories. The nonfat stagecraft is effectively appropriate; if props figure in at all, they're the kinds of things (heavy rope, industrial fans, a nondescript book) that could've easily been found backstage.
