Distant Worlds: Music from Final Fantasy

Some may consider them kiddy stuff, but video games gross more money in America than Hollywood movies. So it makes sense that their background music has become a subject of fascination (who can't hum the Super Mario Bros. theme?). Hugely successful RPG series Final Fantasy has a commensurately ambitious classical soundtrack, and in tonight's US premiere, songs from the franchise are performed live by the Chicagoland Pops Orchestra. The event commemorates the 20th anniversary of the first Final Fantasy game, and includes music that has never been performed onstage. Series composer Nobuo Uematsu also appears.
